Don’t leave so quickly You’ve been gone too long Hey there old friend Hoped I’d see you again Start where we left off You’re still reading my thoughts Old family and friends Still fighting their demons Doing what they know how Feeling stuck here now Don’t leave so quickly You’ve been gone too long Where there once was a farm Is now a parkade When I looked around Saw childhood memories fade We’ll open new doors Won’t need nostalgia anymore You’ve always straightened me out Seems so simple now Don’t leave so quickly You’ve been gone too long You’ve been gone too long
2.
For Love 03:15
Deep in your heart is another song If you slow it down soon it may be gone Stop fighting the people helping you along Some backs will break so know your strength The storms will clear and birds will sing Be ready and willing for what it can bring You did it for love not just anything You did it for love not just anything It’s hard coming home to not leave it again The money you make comes with too much to lose It’s not giving in you did all you could do And they can’t replace what was taken with you Under your skin spirits broken Sacrifice peace again and again While fate waits behind you just like an old friend You did it for love not just anything You did it for love not just anything It’s hard coming home to not leave it again
3.
Does he search my name does he ever think about All the troubles and pain if he hasn’t by now I’ll never forget your name but it can never mean The same Don’t slow me down From all the life that came from out of those silent eyes From a song that played a little different each night Changing your course, bringing back some life Don’t slow me down Don’t slow me down Uncertain tomorrow would be here at all We outran the darkness and shook off the cold Taking back feeling from all it controlled Now moving away and settling down Feeling a calm from time going round Seeing your life twenty years from now Don’t slow me down Don’t slow me down
4.
Grey 04:52
Grey took over the sky Far too much to think about, don’t try Staring long as far as I can see Through clouded memories Been hiding for too long Has the world even noticed that I was gone Your smile never left my mind I thought about you the whole time I’ve been to where I’ve only dreamed Still the emptiness surrounded what I’d seen Like smoke covering the sun Like life has come and gone After the stormy billows roll I’ll be by your side for evermore Turning my life around Far too much to think about right now Just carry on the way we do If I could you’re the reason to I’ve spared you from hearing about All the fear that was before you came around I’ve lived with it and a solemn vow To keep you out, my love, to keep you out After the stormy billows roll I’ll be by your side forever more
5.
From You 02:24
Everyone has their dark sides Something to cling on to Whether it stays a secret Or screams out to the world what should I do I want to hear it from you I want to hear it from you Intended for the better To not invite it in to disrupt your life That you’ve built despite of statistic What’s a little help disguising the truth I want to hear it from you I want to hear it from you Clearing the air and clouds from your eyes I want to hear it from you It’s getting harder to reason And understand why I’m still here Watching you go on as someone I know less and less till they disappear I want to hear it from you I want to hear it from you Clearing the air and doubts from your mind I want to hear it from you
6.
I will remember her for you Your mind is off on its own now I will remember her for you You could still outlive us all Tell me where have you been Wondering out alone It took your memories but left mine here on its own I will remember her for you Shown pictures but you don’t know why I will remember her for you Finding your way as you go You could still outlive us all Now the doors are kept closed You’re just trying to get home To a life that is yours for a breath and then it’s gone Come and show me through the darkest of nights Come and show me you’re there Come and show me through the darkest of nights Come and show me you’re there Cause I still believe
7.
Unspoken 04:15
Unspoken love Bared in front of us An understanding we share You know I care Unspoken love Don’t wait for what isn’t coming I tried to leave I stopped my running I know you care You’ll be right here When I was young I jumped over cracks Hung my legs over the edge Turned away kindness and lost them forever You understood why and we left together Starting all over again Giving me space to dream A home to run to When I needed you Unspoken, unbroken Unspoken, unbroken
8.
Nothing 02:46
Thrown stones taken hits Seen suicide and lived with it You heard no sound Forgot your name I stuck around through the worst it’s been Hard to know if I’m a friend When kindness leads to nothing Stuck under your skin Had help getting it in I can’t recall one single night It’s all one time, another life Escorted from your prime When the signs all lead to nothing Killing time when time was lost Invisible lines so lines were crossed I still dream of going back I still dream of going back Wasting away Made one honest mistake Still feel a void like it was yesterday You had no choice, no other way But here you still want to stay When your minds made up for nothing When your minds made up for nothing
9.
Catlin 03:23
Long year Hearts now stone Look through the eyes you stared into before Tales of misfortunes Turn off the light Close yourself in Try to remember a dream of long ago That took you to places Needing more Did you give up a long time ago Singing so long so long Tied up so tight you may never leave It’s been so long so long Falling from the sky Scream your final goodbye This is only the end For Catlin
10.
Bury 04:26
I put a lot of trust in you I guess you know that’s hard to do Doesn’t always come back to that Found a way to see good in the bad When you’re only seventeen If no one’s there unconditionally Who knows of where you’re falling from Who picks you up before too long You’re making less than your fair amount You’re losing more friends than you can count You feel pain and you medicate Drowning out the heartache Keep burying all these troubled souls Keep burying all these troubled souls You know what to do still nothing is done This generation’s learned to wait for no one I met you when you were just a kid You saw the harm in what it did No one stopped to listen to you Just standing there got harder to do Keep burying all these troubled souls Keep burying all these troubled souls You know what to do still nothing is done This generation’s learned to wait for no one

about

It’s easy to fall under the spell of Ashley’s haunting voice. The Vancouver, B.C. based songwriter forged her own identity as a songwriter with 2016’s eponymous self-titled debut. Her sophomore effort, Only the End, maintains the moody introspection that is ingrained in Pacific Northwest life, but now comes armed with a palpable hope complementing her signature melancholy. Her confident vibrato above lightly, distorted guitars mirrors the album’s theme of resilience, if not triumph, over adversity. There is comfort in these warm songs that endorse the realism of contented acceptance, rather than the naïve search for non-existent utopias.

While the songs were conceived in contemplative solitude, Ashley invited some very capable collaborators for their journey into the studio which included Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Paul Rigby (Neko Case), Joshua Wells (Black Mountain, Lightning Dust), Colin Cowan (Elastic Stars) and Ryan Beattie (Himalayan Bear).
